In our outreach to centers we’re grateful for our deepening connection with Nazare Uniluz in Brazil and Sacha Runa Shamanic Community in Bolivia. Friends from both communities will be joining us for the Virtual Gathering 3-6 May as together we serve the personal and global transformation that the world calls forth. We invite you to join us in conversation with anthropologist Wade Davis as we explore the roles our centers play within the global north and south. As we collectively expand our awareness around the injustice in the world and the ways we can engage and educate around inner and outer action, we’ve also invited mindfulness teacher Rhonda Magee and environmentalist Bill McKibben.[Read more…]

Earlier this year we planned a fundraising webinar with the Findhorn Foundation (FF) as a case study and scheduled it in late April to share as much data as possible. In conversation recently with fundraising consultant Brett Cobb, he mentioned that it’s harder to fundraise in the second year of a crisis and the organisation needs to demonstrate how it’s been using the funds received to inspire ongoing donations.
Many of you are aware that on Monday the FF and Community lost two precious buildings to fire, the Community Center and Main Park Sanctuary. Who would have imagined such a crisis in the year following on from the enormity of the pandemic. Thank you to all for the outpouring of love and support that is so appreciated by the whole community. Simon and Brett are still ready to offer the webinar as planned. We invite you all to join what I’m sure will be a conversation of great depth combined with practical insights.
Join fellow members from three networks–Retreat Center Collaboration, the Holistic Centers Network, and Advaya–in an introductory webinar designed to help us understand each other’s communities and collaborative efforts. If you’re interested in an inter-generational approach and curious about non-center based transformational initiatives, we invite you to join us.
Retreat centers are a beacon of light and inspiration in the world, however, centers sometimes struggle to keep the lights on and the pandemic has highlighted new changes. Collaboration opens new possibilities — for retreat centers to address challenges and opportunities as a sector, beyond place, and yet rooted in the deep wisdom of our work.
In the early hours of Monday 12 April, residents in the Findhorn Foundation and Community in Scotland woke to the news of fire. Thankfully nobody was hurt and the natural environment is largely intact. The fire brigade was called and arrived on the scene at around 2am. About a dozen Foundation co-workers and community residents in the houses in the vicinity of the fires were safely evacuated and rehoused as the firemen tackled the blaze. Fire wardens assisted the brigade during the early hours of the morning to keep people safe and to communicate with residents. The community responded with care and support throughout the day and is in transition once more. From preparing to finally welcome back guests, they now face the loss of two significant buildings. Please send your love and prayers as they navigate from crisis to opportunity.[Read more…]

Members of the network have expressed interest in social impact strategies, evaluation, and reporting and this is an area HCN is passionate about. During our webinar this past Wednesday we acknowledged the pain and hurt of the Asian community and read the names of the eight lives lost, six of which were women of Asian descent, in Atlanta, Georgia; Yong Ae Yue, Hyun Jung Grant, Xiaojie Tan, Daoyou Feng, Suncha Kim, Soon C. Park, Delania Yuan and Paul Andre Michels.
We recognise the pain of the Asian community within our retreat centers (be they staff or guests) at this pivotal time in the work against racial injustice and hate crimes, exacerbated by the pandemic over these last 12 months.
HCN has and always will be in the spirit of collaboration, seeking to co-create a more just and loving world. We exist to bring people together and to share the benefits of inner reflection for outer action, leading towards the transformation of society. Despite the suffering that exists in the world we believe in the importance of this collective work and that it matters now more than ever. We’re grateful to be in this with you and seek to create ever greater diversity, inclusion and compassion.[Read more…]
This year the annual Centers’ Gathering 3-6 May, 2021 takes place once more under unique circumstances. Not only are we online rather than in person, we are also re-emerging from over a year of a grave pandemic which has deeply affected the whole world. And of course, it has had a profound effect on the activities of our centers. Some have closed temporarily, some have shifted online, others are uncertain how to proceed. In all cases, we face unique opportunities in considering how we can emerge in a way that speaks to the profound challenges of our times and build resilience personally and collectively.[Read more…]

Our friends at the Retreat Center Collaboration (RCC) hosted a recent community call with our friends at Retreat Guru that will inform our HCN Virtual Gathering in May. We invite you to contemplate the question posed to the retreat centers present; “If you were given a magic wand what would you wish for personally, for your center, and for the world at large?” It was an engaging way to harvest the needs and challenges in conversation, rather than via a survey, and we welcome your input too as we strengthen our collective work.
