Since the early years of the Findhorn Foundation and Community meditation has been a vital part of each day. In Eileen Caddy’s autobiography she wrote, “We started to send out love radiances to people or groups around the world…It was becoming obvious that we were part of a bigger picture.” Later Eileen received the guidance, “Get a globe and start marking the centres on it. You are part of a tremendous network and each member needs to feel part of the whole. This is a network of light. The strength comes through the linking up of the centres.”
Peter Caddy said, “Our early work at Findhorn was entirely on the inner planes, linking up with the network of light, tuning into centres twice a day, receiving visions and telepathic transmissions… it’s very much a communications network as well as a network of energies.” They linked with 370 centres sharing information about the world situation. Dorothy Maclean found the easiest group to contact was a tribe of aborigines in Australia, “They were always right there, as if their consciousness was constantly open to non-physical realms.”
When the first meditation sanctuary was built at the Caravan Park of the Findhorn Foundation in 1968, Eileen received the guidance that it was to be adorned with only one universal symbol. A few days after the completion of the building, a package arrived for the Caddy family – it was a Sunrise Panel with a light for display. Eileen’s guidance confirmed that this was the symbol for the sanctuary.
The original panel was a gift from the Donavourd Weavers, adapted by them from an American Colonial design called “Sunrise.” When this group disbanded they passed their skill and their loom on to the Findhorn Foundation’s weaving studio. In their Spirit the studio continues to keep the tradition alive, weaving sunrise panels on their 200 year old Dobby Flying Shuttle handloom.
Sunrise and Star of Bethlehem Panels can be purchased from The Weaving Studio, which you are welcome to visit when you make the journey to Findhorn. On your way to the Studio, you can also pop into the physical presence of HCN, based in one of the early caravans. For ten years, Christine Lines, the Executive Director of HCN, has been living in the community and also holds the role of FF Network Weaver.
Craft and Creativity
After travels around the Outer Hebridean Islands of Harris and Lewis, Christine’s love of Harris Tweed and appreciation for the crofting way of life deepened. Inspired by her Angel of Creativity for 2020 and from weaving the network of centers around the world for many years, she discovered the joy of weaving colours and textiles. She began attending weekly classes in the Findhorn Weaving Studio, just a few metres from home, and also making cards from the Tweed samples collected on her Hebridean journey.
Christine senses the Holistic Centers Network as a modern day manifestation of the Network of Light, continuing the legacy of Eileen, Peter and Dorothy. The handmade cards have grown out of this same impulse – weaving the love – and are available on a donation basis. You’re welcome to ‘pay by the heart’ and all donations support HCN’s work in the world.
