The Spirit of Collaboration
The Centers’ Gathering began very informally in the mid 80’s with a weekend get together of some of America’s major centers at the Tarrytown Conference Center an hour north of New York City. Participants included program and executive directors from the New York Open Center, Esalen Institute and Omega Institute. A clear sense quickly emerged that there was genuine value in the Centers meeting in a relaxed and friendly spirit of collaboration.
Centers Gathering: A Personal History
By Ralph White
The origins of the International Holistic Centers’ Gathering came about almost accidentally when in 1985 the owner of Tarrytown Conference Center located an hour north of New York City, a former Life magazine journalist, invited the directors and program directors of a handful of holistic centers to spend the weekend discussing the trends emerging in our culture. I was fortunate to be among that original group and it has been a strong blessing, one that has opened many doors, that life has enabled me to attend almost every Gathering since over the course of thirty years.
Timeline
The Gathering began informally in the mid 80s and moved between various centers on the East and West coast of the United States.
