After the Holistic Centers Gathering in Greece last year and creating this option, it’s now available again. Enjoy a guided tour of the Pelion, before we journey to Athens via the sacred sites of Delphi and Mount Parnassus. The five day tour will connect with onward flights from Athens on the last evening.
This way you can extend your stay at the beautiful Damouchari hotel (where scenes from the film Mamma Mia were filmed) and explore the Mount Pelion area more intimately. We invite you to make the most of your visit to Greece.
Your guide, Adam Reising, is a Director of the Kalikalos Holistic Centre, and a co-host of the Centers Gathering in Greece. He holds an MA in History and Philosophy from Cambridge University, and is thrilled to be able to share his knowledge of Pelion and Greece with the participants coming to the gathering. He will also lead afternoon excursions during the Gathering for those interested.
Regarding the spirit behind these tours, he says, “Greece has long been a crossroads of the Eastern Mediterranean. Migrations of peoples have ebbed and flowed across Greek land and sea routes for millennia. The myths and legends of Greece emerge from this interaction of peoples, cultures and landscapes.”
Three elements define the Greek landscape; White marble mountains, azure skies, and an indigo sea, all bathed in an extraordinarily pure and intense light.
In the Pelion, a fourth element is added, a luxuriant carpet of lush green forest. Here in this forest the first myths emerge; Pan, the centaurs and the satyrs. The nereid nymphs, and the naiads and dryads of deep water pools, springs, and forested glens. And Gaia herself, erupting with life and abundance.
In this corner of Greece, early peoples began to gather together in the very first settled communities on the European mainland, 7000 years ago. Their descendants farmed the land, sailed the seas, tended and terraced gardens and orchards, built villages, and raised temples. Pelion is an example of the co-creation of humans and nature over centuries, watched over and witnessed by massive ancient trees, some thousands of years old.
On this tour, we begin with a personal and intimate introduction to the stunningly beautiful Mount Pelion area, traditionally the summer home of the Greek Gods, before travelling to Delphi, considered by the ancients to be the navel of the Earth. There we visit the sanctuary of Gaia, and Temple of Apollo, site of the oracle, beneath mighty Mount Parnassus, home of Pan and Dionysus.
We stay an evening in the charming port town of Galaxidi, with it’s flavour of Levantine trade, before experiencing a taste of golden Byzantium, in the World Heritage monastery of Hosious Loukas, set amid the hills of Mount Helicon, the ancient home of the Muses.
We end the tour in Athens, the city that birthed democracy, philosophy, drama and so much more. Here we can help you extend your stay further if you wish to explore the city independently. Or we can connect you to Athens airport for your onward journey.
We estimate the cost of the tour to be between £500 – 750 depending on the number of participants.
