The HCN monthly webinar series is held on the second Wednesday of each month and you’re welcome to join us as we explore effective fundraising.
Theme: Compassionate Fundraising – Clarifying who you are, what you need and actually asking for it
Date: Wednesday, 9 October
Time: 10am PDT
Hosted by: Brett Cobb, President, Compassionate Tampa Bay, and HCN
Overview
When Brett Cobb began his fundraising work at Omega Institute for Holistic Studies in 2008, the organization had only been raising funds since the late 1990’s. Several successful short-term capital projects had improved the campus, while there was only a limited Membership program and six-figure gifts were rare. Eight years later, Omega’s thriving culture of philanthropy included a host of leaders fully invested in the service, growth and mutuality of long-term relational philanthropy, including generous funders making lead grants regularly.
In 2016, Brett moved to Saint Petersburg, FL to form Compassionate Tampa Bay, where based on his more than twenty years of nonprofit experience with major arts organizations in New York and Florida, he continues to consult with nonprofit leaders, including the Holistic Centers Network.
As a Senior Teacher of Compassion Cultivation Training, a program of CCARE/Stanford University and The Compassion Institute, Brett also teaches Compassion, Self-Compassion and Resilience to professionals and organizations in healthcare and education. He is a former board member of the Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and The Yoga Service Council.
For many years, Brett has been intrigued by questions including the following:
- In general, why do so many nonprofit leaders and boards, and even fundraising professionals, resist even a little asking for generous philanthropic support, even when we know the organization does such good work?
- How can we create or improve a culture of philanthropy at our center?
- How can we better ask for what our centers really need?
- How do we create happiness while going about it?
In this session, unpack some of the most challenging questions we face as stakeholders seeking support, with tools to aid you in your personal and organization next steps.
We look forward to being in conversation with you all around this theme relevant to so many of us.
