At a time when the world is seeking ways to address deep-seated inequities, a new video featuring Dr. A. T. Ariyaratne shines a light towards a better humanity. Called the Gandhi of Sri Lanka, the video showcases Dr. Ari’s inspiring journey to create a sustainable peace in Sri Lanka. The video premiered at the Stone Soup Leadership Institute’s16th Sustainability Summit on June 26, 2020 and can be viewed here.
For over 60 years, his organization, Sarvodaya has empowered millions of people to build a long-lasting social, economic and environmental movement. His message is a step-by-step recipe: Awakening one person awakens an entire family, which can awaken an entire community and then one day, the world. Founded with young people, Dr. Ari now calls on young people to awaken their inner change-maker. Eager to carry on his legacy, his grandchildren responded to the Call to Action with YouthForce. Their story is featured in the forthcoming book, Stone Soup for a Sustainable World: Life-Changing Stories of Young Heroes. Sri Lankan actress and environmental activist Michelle Dilhara is another one of the 100 stories featured in the book.
With Dr. Ari’s granddaughter, Tiara Ganegama, as narrator, the video offers a compelling story of how Ariyaratne’s commitment to non-violence created a transformative model for nations to create sustainable peace. “We are honored to carry on our grandfather’s legacy.” Niven Ganegama, YouthForce.
“It was a great opportunity to share our story and to be featured in this lovely video. I want to thank the entire team for their hard work to make this possible,” said Tiara Ganegama, YouthForce.
“It was a pleasure working on the film which tells the world the legacy of Dr. Ari and to be blessed by him. I hope our children — and everyone around the world will get to know this great man.” Mantra Integrated.
“Dr. Ari is one of the greatest personalities I’ve met who has created a social network to develop the mental and physical wellbeing of the society around Sri Lanka. He has a magnificent personality that I salute,” said Manick Rodrigo of Barberyn Ayurvedic Resorts.
“Dr. Ari’s far reaching vision for peace is a message for our time.
