As members of HCN, many of you have read news of a new direction for us all within HCN. The full message from the Board circulated 16 July is posted below. You’re welcome to join the community call this week as we navigate the transition.
Over the last year I’ve been studying for an Inner MBA, along with a few other HCN friends, and it was a gift last week when the module focused on ‘How are you dealing with change?’ The framework offered by Jeremy Hunter during the Inner MBA, will be woven into the call including the three basic ways human beings meet change and the journey along the transition curve.

Date: Wed 21 July
Time 9am PDT
Theme: HCN Community Call: Navigating Transition
Duration: 60-90 mins
We’ve all experienced so much change in the last year or more and it can be helpful to consider the different stages of transition; endings, the neutral zone and new beginnings. The framework distinguishes between change being external and transition being internal and this feels so resonant with the transformational nature of our centers.
The call will be an emergent space to share questions, reflections and to listen to what’s important for you in the network. Many of you will be immersed in the high season and adjusting to welcoming guests in person again. If you’re free to join it would be lovely to connect once more.
with much love and appreciation to you all,
Christine
Board Update 16 July 2021: Calling for a New Direction
‘We envision a global network of holistic centers working together for the evolution of consciousness, justice, and care for the natural world.’ This is the renewed vision of the Holistic Centers Network.
We share this again with you all as it has been the north star of the Board of Directors’ work in navigating the direction of our network. As we continue to review our financial sustainability, it has become clear that 1) traditional structures of leadership and governance limit our ability to have a deep impact and 2) there is a calling for a new direction.
Beginning August 1, 2021, the Board of Directors will take over operational responsibilities for the organization. Christine Lines will continue to serve in her current role until the end of July 2021. The Board made the difficult decision to release the need for a traditional ED role as we began to realize that the new way forward will be through ‘collective organizational leadership and governance.’
When HCN formalized as a project under the Breitenbush Eco Fund (BEF), a US 501(c)3 entity, its original vision was ‘a thriving interconnected network of holistic centers working together to benefit all of humanity and the earth.’ The mission ‘to strengthen connection, communication and collaboration among holistic centers worldwide, expanding our potential to serve the evolution of consciousness’ was nurtured and developed through the leadership and vision of Christine Lines, HCN’s first Executive Director. The Board is deeply grateful to Christine for being an expert network weaver to help build HCN to where it is today – ready to meet the next stage of transformation into a renewed vision that is calling for a holistic approach to governance that embodies new emergent styles of leadership, centers collective wisdom, and supports personal responsibility and accountability.
It is now with this sense of ‘what wants to emerge’ that the Board will focus HCN toward a new direction that will allow us to manifest our renewed vision and build the diverse, inclusive, equitable network we seek to become. As members of the network, HCN will continue to hold webinars and support learning pods in July and reconvene in September. In August HCN will take a ‘summer break’ from our usual activities as many of us are busy with re-openings, in our high season, or taking our own personal break. In late August, the Board will be sharing more details about our plans moving forward, including activities for the rest of 2021 as well as resuming our in-person signature annual gathering in 2022. In the meantime, communications to the Board can be sent to board@centersnetwork.org.
Sincerely,
Jenyng, Ling, Peter, Ralph, and Werner
HCN/BEF Board of Directors
