2013 in review

January 8, 2014 by Centers' Gathering Leave a Comment

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 10,000 times in 2013. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Gabriola Island and How to Get Here!

January 6, 2014 by Centers' Gathering Leave a Comment

I am excitedly looking forward to welcoming participants from all over the world to The Haven for the International Holistic Centres Gathering, April 6-11 2014.

The beginning of 2014 seemed like a good time to give you some more information about Gabriola Island, the home of The Haven for the past 30 years, and how to get here.

Gabriola Island features on Wikipedia, and the entry gives the following data about our geographic location: Gabriola Island is one of the Gulf Islands in the Strait of Georgia, in British Columbia (BC), Canada. Gabriola lies about 5 kilometres east of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, to which it is linked by a 20-minute ferry trip from Nanaimo harbour. It has a land area of about 57.6 square kilometres and a resident population of slightly more than 4,000. The map may make it clearer where we are! You can find out more about the history of the island and some theories about the island got its name, on Wikipedia. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabriola_Island) [Read more…]

Tamera Newsletter
– November
2013

Dear friends of Tamera,

We greet you with a short newsletter from an intense and sunny autumn in Tamera!

We also greet all peace workers currently in Israel-Palestine, Kenya, Colombia, Brazil and Portugal within the frame of the Global Campus. The journeys of the Global Campus serve to awaken the power of compassion and to work on a real perspective. You can find the diaries from the different stations of the Global Campus here: http://globalcampus.wix.com/globalcampus

In a few days we celebrate Global Grace Day, the action day of the planetary community for Terra Nova – November 9th. This day carries the motto, “To see the healed picture of the planet.” We have put together 10 pictures, each of which shows an aspect of the new earth. During sunrise on November 9th, we want to visualize these images in as many places as possible, and thereby pave the road towards their manifestation.
Here you can
download all pictures. Whoever still wants to participate in the Global GRACE Day is welcomed and warmly invited.
Please register on following page: (

SPLASH at Findhorn – A new holistic initiative

November 1, 2013 by Centers' Gathering Leave a Comment

BACKGROUND NOTES TO SPLASH –
SPIRIT LED APPROACH TO SUSTAINABLE HOLISM:
A MONTH-LONG HOLISTIC PEER GROUP PROGRAMME

Holistic living involves the whole self and therefore includes the following parts of the person:

Physical

Emotional

Mental

Spiritual and

Relationships between people and groups (Social)

If there is a hierarchy in holistic learning, the process should be led by the higher self or the spiritual self. A helpful analogy is that the whole person can be likened to a carriage and driver pulled by a horse. The owner is inside the carriage, the driver is high at the front with the reins of the horse in his hands. The owner represents the higher self (spirit); the carriage (body); the driver (mind) and the horse (emotions). The direction should be set by the owner, (the spirit) and not by the driver (the mind). Each part then has a clear function in making the carriage move to its destination.

So the idea is to gather a group of people together and do a month-long journey together, making goals and logging results. As individuals this enables us to look at our current ways of living holistically and expand on them or identify areas where we are weaker and need to improve. We can especially look and share at the ways we already let our spiritual or higher self lead out lives. I use meditation as a spiritual practice and can only work as a creative person if I listen to my higher self and wait for ideas to emerge. Creative work is a spiritual practice for me. Other people may use Taize or devotional singing or walks in nature or gardening. There are many, many ways to access the spirit.

October 22, 2013 by Centers' Gathering Leave a Comment

We are delighted to announce the new programme for 2014. Click here to view full details. Courses are currently being added to the website and this will soon be complete, but we wanted to share an advance preview right away.

As well as some completely new courses for next year, we also have a change to the programme style: during the busy holiday periods we are offering an additional option: to arrive or depart on a Wednesday, as this often means you can get cheaper flights. It also means you can choose to do one and a half weeks, should you wish. Please see the programme on the link above, and contact us with any queries. [Read more…]

Remembering Ben Wong, Co-Founder of The Haven

October 1, 2013 by Centers' Gathering Leave a Comment

BennetWongSept2013Wong, Bennet Randall. July 16, 1930-September 25, 2013.

Pioneer humanist and human potential advocate Bennet (‘Ben’) Wong died Wednesday September 25 in Nanaimo British Columbia, at the age of 83, from complications of a fall and Parkinson’s disease. Nanaimo is twenty minutes by ferry from Gabriola Island, home to the The Haven, co-founded by Wong in 1983 with his business and life partner Jock McKeen.

Bennet Wong knew from childhood that he wanted to become a psychiatrist and to help people. His life as a specialist in Adolescent Psychiatry and as an early advocate of holistic health and unencumbered authentic living makes him an important part of the theories and practices that have helped to define an entire generation. Reflections from previous participants

August 24, 2013 by Centers' Gathering Leave a Comment

I’m grateful and happy the Gathering is so strong and dynamic. It’s here and it’s here to stay and that is very fulfilling. I have a huge appreciation for Esalen, they did a magnificent job with the space, the schedule, the community. I feel personally renewed by the natural beauty, the heart connections and new friends.

There is a planetary transformation of consciousness and these centers give people hope. It’s possible to be together in a new way, a meeting in the heart, all coming together in a beautiful ambience. I feel very happy about the future of the Gathering.

Ralph White
New York Open Center

I have only sixteen pages of notes worth taking! A reflection of the richness of the Gathering. I’ve valued the open space, the number of optional sessions and appreciate the heartfelt connections.

Brajesh Friedberg
Mount Madonna Center

It’s been a wonderful week, I’ve enjoyed every second and couldn’t be happier its at The Haven next year. I will do my best to make sure it’s as wonderful as this year at Esalen!

Come Alive at The Haven

August 7, 2013 by Centers' Gathering Leave a Comment

Come AliveThe Haven is honoured to be the host centre for the International Holistic Centers Gathering 2014.

We are a not-for-profit charitable educational institution on beautiful Gabriola Island, BC, Canada. In 2013 The Haven is celebrating 30 years of offering programs for personal and professional development and growth.

The Haven has participated in many Centers Gatherings over the years. I went to the Gatherings at Findhorn in 2012 and Esalen in 2013 and came away fully convinced that the opportunities for learning and collaboration offered by the Gatherings are extremely valuable to my organization. In the months leading up to the next Gathering, I will be posting every couple of months with some information about The Haven which I hope will tempt you to join us, April 6-11 2014.

The Haven was founded in 1983 by Jock McKeen and Bennet Wong. They developed a set of models which underpin some foundational programs which have become The Haven’s core curriculum. One of those programs is Come Alive, which is offered at least once a month. Many hundreds of circles of thousands of Come Alives have happened at The Haven since the first in September 1983.

Come Alive is an opportunity for revitalizing your life, discovering and activating your resources and realizing your full potential in your personal and professional life. To find out more about the program, watch this video of participants talking about their experience of Come Alive.

There will be a Come Alive running directly before and after the Centres Gathering, March 30-April 4 and April 21-26. Centers Gathering participants will be offered a special discount to attend either of the two April Come Alives. This will be announced at before the end of the year, when we open registration for the Gathering.

For more information about Come Alive at The Haven, please visit our web site http://www.haven.ca/programs/come-alive.html If you have any questions about the 2014 Centers Gathering, please contact me by email (rachel@haven.ca)
