Mutual Learning and Support within the Network

March 3, 2017 by Christine Lines 1 Comment

A few months ago I received an email from Cameron Wenaus, co-founder of Retreat Guru, who bring together retreats, teachers and practitioners, as well as develop retreat management software. Cameron attended the 2016 Gathering at Le Monastère des Augustines and there are natural overlaps and interconnections between our networks.

He wrote to make an introduction, saying, “Heather Scott is the Executive Director of Dorje Denma Ling, a retreat center in Nova Scotia connected to the Shambhala Lineage. I have been to DDL many times for retreats; it is a humble and powerful location.

I was talking to Heather about the challenges they are facing recently and she expressed a yearning in networking with other retreat centers during this next phase of growth and change. I thought that the Centers Gathering might be a good resource.” [Read more…]

The Ender of Assigned Gender

Re-posted with kind permission from Breitenbush Hot Springs

genderA big stir around our circle recently has been a conversation/debate about what defines gender and who gets to decide. It appeared as a proposal to both recognize and actively support transgender people in their struggle for inclusion and acceptance in society, starting with women-only events at Breitenbush (whether sponsored by Breitenbush or not). It is noted that transgender people are perhaps the most persecuted population of all, suffering a host of abuses, from sexual violence to ridicule, ostracism, shunning, lack of public services, loss of employment and family abandonment, among other cruelties. Living intentionally with kindness and joy

July 30, 2014 by Christine Lines Leave a Comment

There is a magnetized sign that sticks to surfaces in my kitchen, it says, “Kindness is My Religion”. It gives me joy to see it. I tell my daughters that joy is the most revolutionary act possible if the heart remains open to the suffering out there, without denial. I don’t know if my daughters entirely get it yet, but I observe they’re taking it in. It’s a practice, living intentionally with kindness and joy.

Breitenbush Hot Springs was envisioned as an intentional community at our beginnings in the late 1970s. Kindness and joy were assumed to be at the heart of the community co-op, even during the inevitable disagreements over personalities, principles or practices. You can find kindness and joy embedded in our Credo, written in 1978. 35 years later, these qualities have found expression in a covert sort of way in the Breitenbush Facilities Council Charter, adopted in 2013, wherein the final principle is “Celebrate Success”.

To celebrate success and live with kindness and joy — this is not a conventional approach to conducting business in a cynical world. But I’d say we’re doing alright so far. [Read more…]

Which Centres attended the 2012 Gathering?

May 21, 2012 by Centers' Gathering 4 Comments

In May 2012, 37 people representing 27 centres in 16 countries on five continents gathered together at the Findhorn Foundation in Scotland for the International Holistic Centres Gathering. Together we explored our unity in diversity, shared about our work and service in the world, exchanged ideas, challenges and experience. It was a time of learning from one another, in the spirit of supporting the planetary transformation that is unfolding in the world.

This gathering has been INCREDIBLE. As a small center based way out in Yosemite National Park, I really feel folded into the greater network. This feels so vital. Thank you for creating this!
